Alexandria, Va. – September 26, 2023 – Superintendents working to create student-centered, future-driven education in their districts are convening in Castleton, N.Y., September 28 and 29, as part of AASA’s IDEAL (Innovative Districts Empowering All Learners) fall cohort meeting.

AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and Questar III BOCES are co-hosting the event, where participants will share examples of outstanding educational practices that will benefit cohort members and their learning communities.

“As we prepare our students for a future that is tailor-made for them, it is critical that they have the understanding that their voice matters in order to feel empowered,” said Dr. Gladys I. Cruz, district superintendent, Questar III BOCES and the 2023-24 president of AASA. “We are honored to serve as host site for this convening, where attendees will have ample opportunities to learn from each other and discuss winning strategies to address the individual needs of students in their respective home districts.”

The IDEAL Cohort is working to overcome organizational barriers to create a network to support each other to provide sustainable examples of personalized learning for young learners anywhere in America.

“Superintendents are building positive cultures in their school communities so their students can thrive,” said David R. Schuler, executive director, AASA. “Innovation is never ending, which is why I’m excited that IDEAL Cohort participants who are visiting Questar III BOCES will have a firsthand look at dynamic learning environments. We are grateful to District Superintendent Gladys Cruz and her team for hosting our fall meeting.”

Key features of the two-day meeting will include:

  • Student-led tours at Robert H. Gibson Technical School, where participants will be able to get a firsthand look at students involved in construction, cosmetology, culinary arts, and gaming and multimedia.
  • Leveraging student voice through a Questar BOCES III student panel.
  • Visits to Tech Valley High School, Hudson Valley Community College and the University at Albany, State University of New York.
