Three local teams placed in the Top 20 in their problem and age group at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals May 25-28 at Iowa State University. Germantown CSD placed 2nd in “No-Cycle Recycle” Division I, Averill Park High School tied for 3rd in “Stack Attack!” Division III, and Tamarac Secondary School placed 16th in “No-Cycle Recycle” Division II. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students of all ages. It encourages students to use their imaginations and to work in teams – skills that will be useful throughout their lives.

Teams are judged on their unique solutions to the problems, as well as their teamwork, creativity, ability to think out of the box, and in excelling (i.e., going above and beyond) throughout the competition.

This region has a long history of success all the way to the World Finals. At least one team from Rensselaer, Columbia or Greene County has advanced to the World Finals every year since 2007. See photos from the Region 4 tournament, held at the Coxsackie-Athens CSD campus on Feb. 27 here.
