Questar III’s Adult Education programs are once again expanding their reach by partnering with community agencies.

In March 2012, Questar III started teaching GED classes at the downtown branch of the Troy Public Library. In just six weeks the class grew from three to 16 students.

The organization is now preparing to offer GED classes at the Lansingburgh branch of the Troy Public Library, the first time Questar III Adult Education programs will be based in north Troy. Classes will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. from July 10 through August 9, and then continue in the fall.

Adult Literacy Program Facilitator Pamela Mertz said strengthened partnerships with the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services and new partnerships with the Troy Housing Authority indicated there was a real need for adult literacy services in north Troy.

“Everyone I’ve talked to while promoting Questar III programs is thrilled we are reaching into North Troy,” said Mertz, who worked to market new and existing programs, including a new collaboration with the YWCA.

The YWCA of the Greater Capital Region has agreed to let Questar III teach an onsite GED class during the summer. This will provide Questar III with the opportunity to once again offer evening classes in downtown Troy.

Jennifer Nelson, a program coordinator at the YWCA is happy Questar III called. “This is a win-win for both organizations and a natural partnership.”

Questar III will offer summer session GED classes at the YWCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m. July 10 through August 9, 2012.

Located at 21 First Street in Troy, the YWCA offers off-street parking and is accessible by the CDTA bus line.
