The adult GED program in Coxsackie

Questar III's adult GED program celebrated Women's History Month by researching the impact of women such as Ann Frank, Susan B. Anthony and Mother Teresa.

The adult GED class at the Greene Accelerator in Coxsackie explored the impact of women on history and our modern world.

In recognition of Women’s History Month in March, GED Teacher Judy Conine asked students to research an influential woman, and then present back to their peers.

The project challenged adult students, many of which had been out of school for years and only remembered doing book reports, to use technology such as the Smart Boards, PowerPoint, YouTube and Internet.

On March 29, students presented on Shirley Muldowney, Anne Frank, Ann Boleyn, Susan B. Anthony, Marilyn Monroe, Rosa Parks, Elizabeth Blackwell, Joan of Arc and Mother Teresa.

Student Jamie DeMarata appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the contributions of women.

“I surprised myself by really enjoying this project. Once I realized that I knew my information, I relaxed and was excited to share with my class,” she said.

The adult GED class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Greene Accelerator located at 260 Mansion Street in Coxsackie.
